The Role

Having recently been shortlisted for the Digital Technology Awards in the Data Trailblazers category, the FarrPoint data analysis and visualisation team is looking for a new GIS Consultant. You will be joining a well-established and creative data team and contribute to its ongoing success.

The GIS Consultant role will involve applying GIS and data analysis approaches to a wide variety of problems, requiring a high degree of problem solving and the ability to develop skills on the job. This will include conversion and detailed analysis of spatial and non-spatial data, development of static and interactive maps and dashboards, and production of complex modelling tools and scripts.

The role involves developing solutions and the production of outputs to meet our clients’ requirements, as well as internal development to enhance our current processes/platforms and contribute to the development of consultancy services and products to add value to our clients. You will be required to engage with clients and internal stakeholders in delivering projects and play an active team role to support the wider practices and business.

We are looking for someone with experience of configuring and deploying various software packages and underlying infrastructure required to deliver these services. Packages used include:

• ESRI / ArcGIS Pro / ModelBuilder

• ArcGIS Online / Arcade/ Dashboard expressions

• FME Desktop & server

• ArcGIS Online

• Postgresql/PostGIS, including experience with SQL

• Python / R

• Geoserver (e.g. WMS/WFS/WMTS)

• Cloud Services – e.g. AWS EC2, RDS, S3

• Windows Server/Linux experience

An example of current work includes data analysis and mapping of broadband infrastructure and service availability, including deployment cost modelling to support clients in their investment decisions. FarrPoint also deliver interactive web-GIS maps to clients across a range of projects and are looking develop this capability further.

About You

We are looking for a person with expertise and skills in as many of the following as possible

• Knowledge and experience of developing complex models to perform scenario modelling and GIS data manipulation

• Experience developing geoprocessing workbenches and automation tools in various software tools and languages (e.g. Python, FME)

• Proficient at producing high quality cartographic static outputs

• Production of interactive dashboards (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS Online Dashboards, PowerBI, Tableau)

• Production and development of Interactive online maps (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS Online)

• Knowledge/experience of configuring and developing IT infrastructure and software (e.g. Cloud services like AWS, Azure, GCP, Open Source software)

• Experience in configuring or deploying web GIS services, including open-source products (e.g. Geoserver, Openlayers, Postgresql/PostGIS)

You will also need the following:

• A degree or masters in Geographical Information Science or similar subject

• To be able to demonstrate practical technical experience of geospatial desktop and web experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Good time management and the ability to work independently on multiple projects

• Ability to manage delivery of project work packages, and to work within a team
