About FarrPoint
FarrPoint is an independent digital technology consultancy providing strategic advice to large public and private sector organisations across the UK and internationally. Some of our clients include: the UK Government, EE, Scottish Government, Statkraft, Edinburgh Airport, UK National Lottery, Government of British Columbia and many more.
We have built a great reputation for the quality of our delivery, our flexible approach and our professionalism. We offer the benefits of working for a small company, combined with ambitious plans for the future, and are now looking for a senior economist to join our team.
About the senior economist role
Your role as a Senior Economist at FarrPoint is to lead our economics practice and support our clients in identifying gaps and opportunities for investing in digital technology and infrastructure. Your role will include working on large government infrastructure investment programmes, data centres, airports and smart social care projects. This will often mean helping clients understand the impact that digital technologies can have on the economy, society and the environment, and developing clear business cases with innovative solutions to help our clients achieve their vision.
You will lead the work of FarrPoint's economics team and help build client relationships whilst providing them with market-leading advice through reports and presentations.
You will play a key role and be involved in all areas of economic analysis and research. The central workstreams for this role include:
-
Assessing economic, social, and environmental impacts - ensuring that understanding and maximising benefits is at the heart of project development. We help clients understand and maximise the value that digital technologies can bring across the economy, society, and the environment.
-
Developing digital strategies - translating the potential of digital technology and connectivity infrastructure into clear, deliverable strategies, setting out a clear plan of action to turn that ambition into reality.
-
Creating business cases - developing robust, evidence-based cases aligned with HM Treasury's Five Case Model, appraising options to identify solutions that deliver value for money and achieve client objectives.
-
Realising benefits - through our agile approach to analysis, we support clients throughout the benefits realisation process, from ongoing project monitoring to end-of-programme evaluation.
-
Business development - contributing to proposals, bringing new ideas, and attending/speaking at events.
Key skills
- At least five years' experience as a professional economist, as well as a bachelor's degree and/or MSc in economics, with a strong understanding of economic concepts and analytical techniques.
- Experience and understanding in applying economics to policymaking, appraising options, and evaluating impact.
- Interest in business development, as the role will require your help in winning new projects through proposals and presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills and an ability to adapt your style to meet the needs of your audience.
- Strong experience and business analysis skills, with the ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data, and an awareness of agile methodologies and emerging trends.
- Confidence in making effective decisions, with the ability to work independently, demonstrating strong organisation and accountability in a dynamic environment.
- While existing knowledge of technology and digital connectivity is not a prerequisite, you should have an interest in technology and a desire to learn more about how it can benefit organisations, communities, and individuals
